Build Strength for Uncertainty

One thing that is for certain is there is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. This creates anxiety at a deep level for us humans. Often this makes us grip tighter to control the things around us, or within us, that we believe we can control. It brings to the surface our deep-rooted Fears.

How do we manage this uncertainty, the lack of control, the fear?

We start by realizing very little in life is certain. We realize we have control over very little.

I love the quote “If you want the Universe to close and open doors, let go of the doorknobs.” anonymous

As I look back over my life, it is interesting how things have worked out. The things I fretted over, the sleepless nights, the worry, the projecting, the “awfulizing” – and yet things worked out. Maybe not the way I thought, or wanted them to, but the way they were meant to.

As I reflect, I can now see the many lessons in all these things. Lessons of acceptance and faith.

What we can control is ourselves. Pausing to examine how we process and respond to external events. What are the thoughts and the stories we tell ourselves about what is happening?

A version of the serenity prayer I like is…

“God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change,

the courage to change the one I can,

and the wisdom to know it’s ME.”

The best way we can navigate the challenges life brings, is to turn our focus internally. When we are grounded in who we are, we can use this foundation as our strength and guide during uncertainty.
